In a life of constant change, Sylvia McNeall felt a need to tell her story and that of her Estonian family in her first book, Foresight and Perseverance.
Initially a graphic artist (ASTC Diploma), she spent some years as the Assistant Director of the New England Regional Art Museum which gave her the impetus to continue her tertiary education in the fine arts. While working as a graphic artist, she completed in 1993 a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the University of Sydney and in 1998 a MArt at the College of Fine Art, UNSW. She has put her love of art on hold while she immersed herself in writing Foresight and Perseverance.
She is the mother of three sons, the grandmother of six granddaughters and the step-grandmother of three grandchildren of her second husband with whom she has finally settled in Sydney.
